5 Everyday Habits for a Healthier Smile
Exmoor Dental Centre · 18 June 2026
Looking after your teeth doesn't have to be complicated. A few consistent habits make the biggest difference to your long-term oral health.
1. Brush for two minutes, twice a day
Use a fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled brush, and take your time — two full minutes, morning and night.
2. Don't skip the floss
Brushing misses the surfaces between your teeth, which is exactly where problems often start. Cleaning between your teeth once a day helps prevent decay and gum disease.
3. Watch the sugar
It's the frequency of sugar, not just the amount, that harms teeth. Try to keep sugary snacks and drinks to mealtimes.
4. Stay hydrated
Water helps rinse away food and keeps saliva flowing, which naturally protects your teeth throughout the day.
5. Keep up your regular check-ups
Routine visits let us spot small issues before they become bigger ones. Prevention really is better than cure.
